The Future Ready Framework

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

As part of our 1:1 technology integration pilot project (Access Learning), the Hawaii DOE developed a change management guide. The guide is designed for school and district staff to use as a resource/starting point to support 1:1 planning.

The Roadmap is a free planning tool for school leaders consisting of an interactive website, a detailed report, and an infographic. It is designed to help schools get the most value out of their investments in high-speed broadband and digital content by crafting a holistic strategy to create 21st century learning environments. Cable Impacts, the industry’s pro-social foundation, teamed with two leading education organizations, the Partnership for 21st Century Learning and the State Educational Technology Directors Association, to create this dynamic resource for schools to help them plan their transition into 21st century learning environments.

Teaching in the Connected Learning Classroom, a collection published by the Digital Media+Learning Research Hub, was edited by a group of National Writing Project educators and takes examples of practice that teachers have shared online—at the NWP Digital Is website—and curates them into a larger collection. This collection, unique in its focus on in-school work, explores the principles of Connected Learning woven throughout classroom work and practices.

The NWP Digital Is website is an emerging and open knowledge base created and curated by its community of members. We gather resources, reflections, inquiries, and stories about what it means to learn and teach writing in our digitally interconnected world. With a focus on digital literacy and Connected Learning, we invite educators to share work, reflections and practices.

In an era of increasing interconnectedness, knowledge and power belongs to those who understand interdependent systems — and have the skills to change those systems. The books in the Interconnections collection offer K-12 educators a curriculum toolkit for supporting systems thinking with a design-based approach to learning that aligns with current Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards while being relevant to youth interests in digital culture.

Written for teachers of writing by a National Writing Project educator, Crafting Digital Writing is an introduction for teachers new to digital writing and a menu of ideas for those who are tech-savvy.  Author Troy Hicks explores questions of how to teach digital writing by examining author’s craft, demonstrating how intentional thinking about author’s craft in digital texts engages students in writing that is grounded in their digital lives.

ISTE Standards for Students are used by states, districts, schools and innovative teachers to guide the use of technology for instruction by identifying the knowledge, skills and dispositions education stakeholders from every level see as critical for preparing students to live, learn and work in the digital age. ISTE Standards for Teachers focus on skills needed to leverage innovations in pedagogy made possible in technology-powered learning environments.

Project ReimaginEd is focused on redesigning classroom activities to meet the Common Core and ISTE Standards. It includes a supportive virtual community where educators can post questions and provide feedback, and will soon include an open library of exemplary, standards-aligned resources. The ISTE Standards are the definitive foundation for using technology to enhance learning in the digital age and are therefore uniquely poised to augment Common Core implementation. Project ReimaginEd is a collaboration between ISTE and the NCLE.

Teacherpreneur Rob Kriete created two powerful tools (a free, downloadable poster and evidence sheet) that SIMPLY explain how the Common Core standards relate to 21st-century learning.
